Prince set the bar in home recording studios by becoming one of the most popular artists that could write, perform, record and produce his own songs. This kind of drive inspires and motivates other musicians to do the same. Through the course of correspondence on this site, several Prince.org members discovered that they shared similar interests in emulating Prince's abilities to write, perform, record and produce.

In August 2002, a new section on the site was created just for prince.org musicians. Within that section, members began comparing and critiquing each other's songs, primarily similar in style to Prince's genre - an updated version of 60's and 70's funk, a style that Prince referred to as "New Funk".

One of the groups' more prolific artists, Jason Dodson, introduced the idea to collaborate on a cd. He called it the New Funk Order. Soon, the decision was made to create a compilation of original music. The 18 artists that came together covered many styles of music, making the New Funk Order a truly Prince-inspired concept.

Jason then started work on formulating the NFO into a non-profit organization for artists dedicated to preserving the freedom of music. The New Funk Order is a musical movement, a rebuttal to the political "New World Order" that encourages corporate globalization and the exploitation of art. The New Funk Order demonstrates that artists can provide free music to the public, without the corporate control of a record company. Music is not free. Radio stations can only play a certain percentage of artists that are signed and record companies don't exactly sign artists these days based on artistic merit. The New Funk Order seeks to bind the greed and lies of the past and loose a new freedom in the land of sound.

The online music community newfunkorder.com gives home and opportunity to talent from around the world. Marching on with the message "Just as the gift was freely given unto us, in turn it is freely given to you," they carry Prince's "Free the music" strike against the music industry forward.

"Project New Funk Order" is an independent publication of YOUR music, the home recording artist. Every six months, the NFO will release a free compilation of original music and original artwork/packaging for download.

No annoying ads or membership fees. The mission here is to step away from the current system of things and put the control back in the hands of the creators.
