Longtime Aussie Prince fans sought for interview

G’day mates! (See, this can only get classier from here on…)

A reporter for the Melbourne Sunday Age, is trying to get in touch with a few long-time, knowledgeable Australian Prince fans to interview for a piece he’s doing to coincide with Prince’s 50th birthday.

If you’re interested, and think you can speak about all facets of Prince’s career (of course including how much prince.org means to you!  No, just kidding… well, sort of :) ), then drop me a line at ben@prince.org with your phone number and email and I’ll foward it on.

Throw another shrimp on the… ehh, I can’t even force myself to type the rest of that — just help out this reporter if you can,
Ben

I have been a big fan of Prince for 17 years, and know heaps about the God. However I a a kiwi living in Auckland New Zealand and our right wing newspaper does not mention him at all unless its negative or gossip related.
Still you would find me very interesting to talk too, and you must know, hes never been o New Zealand, so surely kiwi Prince fans must be the most neglected of all

Yeah, I can help. I am more prone to discuss the October 2003 concerts and how amazing it was. I even have a copy of what I wrote on the NPGMC discussion board at that time about the concert / soundchecks and after party in Melbourne & Brisbane. I recommend MamaLisa to chat with also. I’ll PM you my details.!!

I have been into Prince’s music since Controversy came out here in 1982. The unique sound caught my ears and when 1999 came out I saved up every single cent to pay for that album. Purple Rain naturally was huge here and I remember during a school excursion wagging an afternoon class just so I could go see the movie at the cinema. By the time Purple Rain was released, I had every Prince album. Any special releases I snapped up, although I could not afford the Purple print edition of the LP of Purple Rain. When Prince first toured I was so pissed at my mum for not loaning me money to go to the concert, it really upset me. I was unemployed at the time which didn’t help. I was so cut though.

Anyone remember the Interactive CD? I paid $85.00 for that. The Crystal Ball CD. While I didn’t get the special pack, my mum used her credit card to pay for the shipping of that 5 CD set. Around 1996, when Prince was know as “Symbol” I got it tattooed on my right arm. A few years later he changes it back to Prince. The tattoo is fading a bit so it will be getting repairs and slightly modified. I am not sure if some of you remember when those “Unauthorised” live CDs came out? I bought about 8 of them. Any release he has put out I have grabbed. The Slaughter House and Chocolate Factory CDs had to be downloaded, I also have the Dream Factory downloaded, and there was a CD set of about 5 discs with almost all his remixes, I have that too.

When Prince returned for the Australian Concert, I questioned the “real fans” who were on stage with him. I wondered what questions they had to answer to be in that position, I would have paid top dollar to be anywhere near him.

My Itunes has 5 Prince menus on it. 1978 - 1990, 1991 to Present, Classics (all my favourite songs, not just singles), Remixes, and Collection 1978 - Present. I did go to both Autralian Concerts in 2003, bought all the t-shirts, a poster, CDs, DVD, and even popped on the website and bought a “NEWS” long sleeved t-shirt. I accidently bought one t-shirt twice. I have about 6 - 7 t-shirts and always keep an eye out for one I might not have. I did manage to snap up recordings of the Prince Melbourne shows, but its really bad recording.

I have about 50 - 60 Prince CDS, and will be soon be working on some picture framed stuff soon to have in my house.

Forgot to mention I have “The Work” 5 x 4 CD sets of previously unreleased songs (332 tracks all up) (This was downloaded with covers), 6 DVDs, 3 of my own 4 disc compilations, heaps of EPs and CD Singles…

So, do you think I might be a fan or do I not quite cut it?? LOL

    Cheers

    Andreas

what the funk? doh, i woulda helped out, i been a fan since controversy too. And know he is arguable the greatest musician and performer of our modern day. the man and that whole energy that comes with his music is un-matchable, not sure i could match andreas either in the fan stakes but do know that i probably come close. I even sat on his tour bus in brisbane and met diamond and pearls and exited the bus as he was being led from hotel doors in my direction. Showed respect and didnt make a scene but was definetly something i wont ever forget, and that live after show at transformers in brisbane. What a vibe. Like flying to another planet. If u were there youll know wot im talking bout. anyways, up late, saw the thread, havent made any comments yet and thought this was the place to make one. Too late for the mans birthday, sorry, but woulda glady helped.

    all tha best
    brad
