For me, it's hands down the Ride from the Sacrifice of Victor video, followed closely by Just my Imagination from Small Club. For studio guitar solos, I love Holy River, The 12" version of I Could Never Take the Place of Ur Man, Computer Blue, and Rainbow Children. Actually, my fav guitar solo in a Prince song is Levi's solo in Sexy MF, so eloquent, jazzy and sophisticated!

Loose, Peach, Question of U, so many honourable mentions. Ironically, that RRHOF performance everybody raves about is one of my least favs, he's just showing off chops, not really reaching an emotional depth. He was out to show up the other guys, and I can feel it in the emotional range of the playing.

Take it - like Clarence said:

all different U know."

The Sacrifice Of Victor version of The Ride is without doubt the best version i have heard. He was smoking on guitar during that performance, there is a great scene only a couple of seconds long, where it shows a close up of a girl in the audience after Prince's solo, and the look on her face says it all, brilliant musicianship.

I can't watch those videos (undertaker and Sacrafice)...they make me feel dirty and I have to wash.

Pink cashmere in answer to your question...it feels emotional

But his performance of just my imagination and the acoustic set at the Musicology launch made me relook at learning guirar

I love the solos in Peach, especially the last one.

How do you know he uses three different guitars? Which ones did he use?

Bambi - The Undertaker version.

As much as I love his other solos, nothing topped that one, before or after.

I love The Undertaker (album and video). It is all magic to me, but yes, that version of Bambi is a corker.

Days Of Wild from NPGMC Ahdio show #1, near enough 3 mins of guitar solo bliss.

Question Of U from NPGMC Ahdio show #11, fantastic version, great guitar work.

Hey, that's what it's all about. There is no "best", only favorites.

The first one I ever learned was the little solo in "The Beautiful Ones". It's very easy. Let me know if you want to see the tab or whatever.

xtraloveable ! I think I found my twin !

  • Live 4 Love (D&P) : YES !
  • She's Always In My Hair (Act II) : YES YES !
  • Sister (Lovesexy Tour) : YES YES YES !
  • 3 Chains O' Gold : The master piece, still wonder how he recorded that one!
  • Strays Of The World : I do not agree, too cheezy for me.

my personal touch:

  • Undertaker : the whole stuff, my strongest drug.
  • Whole lotta love (Indigo club) : Just the break, about 3 sec lick.
  • Space (glam sam live 94') : When tomy barberaella has to solo more because P guitar is not ready or so. This one is a collector ! Very progressive.
  • Live in argentina : I have to listen again, but there is a strong part that moves me as well.
  • Stars and bars : some of the heavy effect solo, space, dark etc.. have to listen again to spot the right part.

I wish i could provide sample, because it is not the whole solo, but few licks just a few notes with the perfect touch and harmony....

I'm a sucker for the "angrier" solos - I Hate U, Bob George, Witness, etc. Witness is probably my all time fave, mostly for the tone of the guitar.
