prince remasters

so from prince's own mouth...the remaster's from 'for you' to 'purple rain' are done and ready to go....prince already owns the rights to 'for you' and 'prince' albums....it is 30 years seemingly for the rights to revert back to prince so come july 2014....the 'purple rain' album will revert back to prince so ...fingers crossed....we could have the first wave of remastered albums sometime that year...

.

thanks to the peach and black podcast for this info....so it's looking far more likely to happen now biggrin

agreed that would be like re touching a van Gogh...blasphemy!.... and in accordance to Prince's belief's... irreverent behavior toward anything held sacred, priceless, etc, is deemed an act of cursing or reviling God. A definition of the word Blasphemy...so there you have it, by his own religious beliefs Prince aint allowed to fuck about with them.. razz

1) Downloading now!

2) I want to know who's doing the duties, I don't trust Prince to do a quality job.

3) I'll believe it when I see 'em in stores, as always. Prince changes his mind more than his underwear.

Wow! If this is true, let's hope he start releasing this stuff next year. This would be great! I thought Prince would have 2 wait until 2013 4 the rights 2 revert back 2 him each album. This would be major news. Let's hope the remastered versions r coming soon!

I think it's 35 years when they become free.

I remember him mentioning he will own 'For You' in 2013 and each album every year after.

I think it would be gr8 if he redone them, not to replace the originals, but as fun alternate versions plus adding in some of the unreleased songs from that year.

Otherwise we would just be buying twice what we've already got which I don't like to do.

It is 30 years.

He already owns For You, Prince, and he obtained Dirty mind this year.

yes...as prince told the peachandblack team...with his own mouth... doh! ...that he already has for you and prince....he will get dirty mind this year and every other album he released from its 30th anniversary...now he told the pb team that he has ALREADY remastered the first SIX albums so they are ready to go.....so this info means that the remasters will now almost certainly be released.....when...we dont know....will they extras....we dont know but its still big news that prince is prepared to release them at some point.....thanks.. lol

Why is this big news? Seriously. It was a foregone conclusion that Prince's music wouldn't be lost to antiquity and though the source of the lag was "unknown" until "now" but that still doesn't elevate the info. I think its because it is coming from Prince himself. He said he remastered 6 albums? Wasn't he saying how he had redone his whole catalog up to a certain point, 15 years ago??

Anyway, as with everything Prince, people need to learn to take it with a grain of salt no matter how explosive and juicy it sounds. Remember: There's a whole wiki unto itself of Prince's unreleased projects.

I agree, this is one of the best news of 2010 or maybe years in the purple world. Prince has stated back in that 2000 press conference that he has those mastertapes in his possession but, didn't have the rights 2 them. Then 8 years later, that's all starting 2 change. The rights r reverting back 2 him and he still can't get the green light from Warner 2 do a proper release. I think Prince does want Warner 2 be in on the remastered release of his back catalogue. He just want 2 maintain the rights 2 them. I wonder with all that's in the vault how will his approach be as far as releasing the remastered version of those albums? I mean, he could put a special editions out on every one of those albums and cash in. What about those groundbreaking albums like "Dirty Mind", "Purple Rain", "1999", and "Sign O' The Times"? What special treatment will those get? I think he should put those albums out on his own if Warners don't wanna make the deal happen. It's crazy that Warners can't keep someone there long enough 2 strike a deal, let alone structure one.

It's factually untrue that Prince was unable to release remasters until now. Praise him and his purple world when him getting all the proceeds isn't his inspiration.

I don't think it's bad news at all. This is great news to me. People were worried about if Prince would be interested in remastering the back catalogue, if those mastertape were in good condition, and what's been the hold up with releasing this stuff. Now, we have a little more of a clear view on this. Yes, Prince did state that he has re-recorded his back catalogue up 2 a certain point. I'll have 2 pull up that info soon. I think one of this stories goes that at some point when it got 2 the "Dirty Mind" material he told Larry Graham 2 leave the studio or something like that but, that stuff exist as well. So Prince has so many ways 2 go about releasing the remastered version of those albums.

No, I never said that he could have been release those remastered version of those albums on his own. Warner Bros. still had the rights 2 those albums until starting 2008. It has been documented over the years of Prince approaching Warner Bros. wanting those rights back as well as even willing 2 make a deal with them (on his terms) on releasing a remastered version of those albums or other projects like the 2004 "Purple Rain" special edition DVD. What about the "When 2 R In Love - The Ballads of Prince" project that was mentioned back in 2000 that Warner Bros. rejected?

That's just it. No one wants When 2 R In Love.

Seriously, when you talk about someone like Prince, he comes built in with a 5-10 million worldwide fanbase so when someone says "No one wants that" - I am sure someone does, but most of us don't. Most of us would appreciate Prince taking utmost care, album by album, and releasing them fully remastered and with 3-4 bonus tracks (outtakes or 100% unleaked remixes that are BALLER and not just meh). These terms, while liquid as they aren't a contract, have floated around for years. It's a very easy question to answer when you ask a Prince diehard, "What do you want him to do with his catalog?"

I was just using the "When 2 R In Love" project as example. The point I was trying 2 make is that Prince has approached Warner many of times as far as releasing his back catalogue with it being a remastered album or a special collection compilation of sort containing material from his back catalogue. Clearly the demand is far more 4 the remaster of those albums like u mentioned with bonus tracks as oppose 2 anything else. I'm with u on that!
