I found The Black Album for $4, should I buy it?

Catch is, it has NO case/booklet...

Does the original have ANYTHING in it apart from the black cover?

Is it worth it??

This album is so hard to find but I hate the idea of not having the case, etc!!

GRR..

1. What you've found is NOT an original black album from 87. Therefore you didn't find a rare item.

2. Either it's a cheap bootleg OR the 90s reissue.

3. Both cheap bootlegs and the 90s reissues DO come with booklets and stuff.

4. Both cheap bootlegs and the 90s reissues can be bought for $4 any time - WITH booklets etc.

So, go for it or let it be... You're not going to make a huge mistake either way. lol

There was nothing inside the 1994 CD release of The Black Album.

I truly don't know why anyone would debate spending 4 bucks. It's like Steve Martin said in one of his stand-up bits (about the price of a ticket to his show)...

Gee...I got four dollars...I think I'll throw it out in the street. Oh - I can come in here for four dollars? Okay.

What happens?

Don't know what you mean "inside", but this is the 94 CD release of The Black Album:

On the tray is a sticker. The black thing behind that sticker is a black booklet, even though it's only a single sheet. Behind that is a CD, placed in front of a black tray insert, which makes up the "back cover" of the album. So what exactly is "not inside" the 94 CD release of The Black Album? lol

yes there is a black booklet (although a single sheet hardly makes a 'booklet' in my opinon) but i think what was meant as far as there be nothing inside was meant as being no information/lyrics/pictures or other material that you usually find in a 'booklet'. as for rare, you can find them on amazon right now starting at $8 and they are always on ebay too

Mine, either. Which is why I said what I did.

$4 ?? Is that all?? I hope by now you have bought it. I remember when it first came out in London. People were parting with £100 or more for it !! I'm serious. Yes you should own it. Anyone who appreciates prince and his music needs this cd. It bridges the gap nicely between Sign O the Times and Lovesexy. Its funkalucious. Its got classic songs. Rock hard in a funky place, Bob George, to name but two. Its a party album, its got the funk, its the one you want!!!

Hate having no sleeve?!?!? The black album as I remember didn't have much apart from the black sleeve and song titles in peach I think. I didn't recall any credit notes. Just print some paper and colour it black, fool !! Its the music you want.

OK, i give up. You guys must be out of your mind, talking about $100 and stuff.

Attention:

The Black Album was officially released in 1994. Officially, dig? As in: "in record stores, all over the world"...

It's not rare in any way. $4 is not an amazing bargain. The 94 CD is all over ebay, etc. There's no reason to buy it and "print a black glossy sleeve" etc. Wait a week or 2 and go get a stickered copy WITH the booklet from ebay for $2 or $3. Ah, well, whatever... confused

You do realize a real black album sold (previous to '94) for $10,000 once?

LOL yeah but you do realize that was a 87 pressing which was withdrawn in the first place, which is a rare collectors' item, one of the most bootlegged albums in the history of pop music, and maybe the most famous bootleg as well, surrounded by stories, legends and myths, with every copy being sold over the internet worldwide being watched by the hardcore collectors until this day...

...while the 94 release, especially the CD release, is nothing of all that?

the '94 release is now a 16 year old discontinued album. Is it that easy to find? Lemme see...

It's actually not that easy to find in stores and especially for under $20. If they go for $4 on eBay or Amazon, that's a really good price for an out-of-print limited item. Remember, these 1994 CDs were pulled off shelves after a certain date and returned to Warners as part of the terms of Prince's contract. So if they pressed 500,000 copies, not all were actually sold and are in collections or circulation - many would have been destroyed.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's not RARE rare but it's printed in limited(ish) numbers, only available in stores between certain dates and discontinued...so it has some rareness compared to other stuff....a notch above The Gold Experience on my scale

a google search didn't come up with one official CD under shopping (some bootleg black album vinyl did come up, and I can't believe this shit has any value, I own them all, and they are worthless now in my opinion)... I'm scratching my head about people saying it's not rare... for example a google shopping search of "gold experience prince" turns up a CD as the first listed.
