Playing Prince bootlegs in public....

So I was going to Walmart this past Sunday and I was bumpin' Wonderful Ass from Box O Chocolates as it was a nice day. As I was parking a girl and guy came running up to the car asking if that was a new Prince song. I told them that it was a unreleased joint from 85-86 and they lost their minds. I let them hear the whole song and skipped through the rest of the disk and they almost peed their pants. I told I have alot more than that. But I always get that reaction from people when they hear me playing my boots in the car. Makes me feel like I have the keys to the vault and people really think I do.

Has similar situations happen to you guys?

I was at a gas station a few years ago, bumping the "We Can Funk" boot (the same version on Box of Chocolates). These two vatos came up to me...

"Hey holmes...what's that u playin?"

"Ah...that's Prince."

"Prince?????"

They were no where near fans and the look on their face was priceless, but they knew it was crackin'!

I was listing to some CDr of some prince bootlegs and I got out of my car and noticed a car with a prince window sticker and a gal walked to it and I said "is this your car and do you like Prince?" she said "Yes!" so I smiled got into my car and ejected the CD and gave it to her and said "it is full of unreleased Prince songs, have a nice day..."

I did the same thing when I went to a sandwich shop and the clerk had a prince necklace, I asked if he was going to the concert he said 'no' I said 'that is too bad' but I went to my car and took out a few CDRs (mostly remixes) and took them into him.

That's so cool!

I like to share the wealth as much as possible. We've got Prince symbol stickers in the back of our little car and we've had a few people beep us on the road in appreciation.

I'll have to start stocking more Prince boots in the car I think!

This story reminds me of something that I did once. Towards the end of 1993 a friend and I met Rosie Gaines and she invited us out to Paisley Park while she was finishing up recording on her debut album. At one point we were in the studio and she was sitting at the piano and asking us if we would like her to play anything. I remember asking her to do Ain't No Way, Diamonds and Pearls, among others. I told her I loved Ain't No Way from the Nude show in Tokyo. She wondered how I heard that and I told her I had a bootleg of the show on video. She was shocked and mad that she didn't even have a copy. eek She asked me to bring it in one night, so a couple nights later I did and she had a couple other people with her. She called one of the studio guys to bring out a vcr and tv to the atrium and we sat there and watched the show. It was a very strange feeling sitting there watching a boot in Paisley Park.

This reminds me of a dream a friend of mine had. He said Prince played a concert of all UNRELEASED/Bootleg songs. One by one Prince would have his bodyguards kick U out of the gig if U knew the words and sang along!
HA!

The only proof I could give you would be a photo and I don't have that. I didn't think bringing in a camera to Paisley Park would be a good idea! I can tell you Frances Jules was visting his family in Holland at the time we were hanging out with her. She got us into the filming of the Ryde Divine. She is a very laid back, down to earth person. Very sweet. I met her and Frances at Glam Slam. The band were there for some media event.
