Recommended Parade Tour Bootleg?

Hey,

What's your favorite live bootleg from the 1986 Tour/Parade Era? The more I read about this period the more it sounds...well, very fun.

Recommendations?

thanks. wink

city lights isn't a parade tour bootleg, but it has shows from 1980 to 1986 and the swedish 86 parade show is one of the best and most complete soundboards from the tour. parade around the world has the le zenith paris 86 show in soundboard (missing the end that includes it's going to be a beautiful night that was recorded for SOTT, but this can be found on other boots that use soundboard for the first disc and audience recording for the second part), plus a bunch of other soundboard parts for disc 2 and a soundboard parade era rehearsal on disc 3. the le zenith show was going to be released as an official album

there is also the detroit 86 birthday show that was broadcast on tv, just incomplete

if you don't have city lights it's worth getting, especially the newly remastered version. there are now 4 volumes of this, collecting (mostly) soundboard recordings

there's also the parade era rehearsals that is what it suggests

Funky Party 2 Nite also known as Le Zenith in Paris, 1986. Great show. It was also the show where "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night" was recorded. The last 4 songs on the boot are audience recording, including TGBABN. The rest is all soundboard and sounds great.

Also, Ahoy Rotterdam is a good one.

parade around the world has the same zenith show as funky party 2 nite and is also incomplete. "paris parade" by optimum is the version with the audience recording filling the end. the ahoy rotterdam show is a dvd with the first 20 mins of the show in pro shot/soundboard (that deteriorates in sound halfway through) that's pretty good, or you have an audience recording of the show, but for a starting point you should begin with the excellent sounding soundboards

veni vici vidi is one of my fave shows from a warm up dvd from first avenue 86, the quality isn't the best, but it's a pro shot early rehearsalish show of the tour. you should also track down the swedish 86 and detroit 86 pro shot dvds as they are excellent

I think the Yokohama 86 show is essential

septembre is pretty good for an audience recording of it's age. if you watch the video of the show and squint a bit you could almost make out prince. if you don't have the video, just get a camcorder, put a gameboy playing tetris on the other side of the street, zoom in, record it and then blur the image until you can't tell what you've recorded, and play it back whilst listening to the cd. that's how i digitally remastered the show for dvd

Parade Around The World soundboard,

only mistake: there's no "Kiss" on this fantastic Parade bootleg.

I really like the Birthday show at Cobo Hall, and the Japanese one (final Rev performance?)

I have to say I think this tour is hands-down one of the greatest ever. Despite what nay-sayers say about the 'counter-Revolution' etc.

It was funkaaay!

You, yes you, stop fighting! lol He sounds like he's going to bitch-slap the guy when he says that. Although an embarassing moment for us audience, it keeps cracking me up!

"Manic Monday" , Show of Ahoy Stadium, Rotterdam, Holland, 18-08-1986, the second show there. Thought you meant that one. There are some guys fighting front row, and at two moments during the show Prince stops the music because of it, last time during "America" if I am not mistaken. He reprimands the guy that he "is spoiling the fun for everyone", and also yells something like "I swear to God, we'll split". He does it in this I-will-bitchslap-yo-ass tone though, which makes it kinda funny. Nothing like the "You didn't get all dressed up to get in here to get messed up" - line where he sounded cool and relaxed about it. Oh, whatever.

It hasn't really, but there has always been lots of talk of this tour being when the Revolution lost what was good about them in their hey day (which in fact only really lasted one album!!)

Hell! - can of worms eh?

OK, one last time:

I've read a lot in the past about how the Revolution were becoming quite upset about the arrival of new members into the band around the time of the Parade tour. Eric Leeds was known to have dubbed the band the 'Counter-Revolution', and that the band felt ousted by new members - saying that the Revoolution had become "just like any other r'n'b band" (Wendy's words I believe).

This is confounded by a lot of people on here who I have read saying that the 'general consensus' is that the Revolution was 'better' during the Purple Rain tour.

And all I am saying is disagree with that point of view.

Perhaps I'm preacvhing to the converted here, cos everyone in this post is obviously a Parade tour fan.

Peace

Just listened to the San Francisco show by Sabotage and I think it is fantastic. I always go back to this show. It's great when Prince stops the show and makes fun of Wendy and a rehersal she was running when Prince wasn't there. Great..great show!!

Yeah, I've never, ever heard that people preferred the Purple Rain tour band over the Parade tour band. Like, ever. If anything, the Parade tour band gets top billing behind the '93-'96 NPG and the LoveSexy band on the org.

I know what he's talking about, at least in terms of how people have said the main Revolution members weren't very happy about the changes going on. There was a lot of talk about the dancers being added and how it diminished the show and the alleged quote from Wendy about Susannah (something like "I shared a womb with her; I don't want to share a stage too"--I'm not even sure if the quote is true, I should note). Seems like the band wasn't as happy as it had been in the past (which is not to say the band wasn't still kickass).

That quote's correct, but Wally and Greg and Jerome were on stage during the Purple Rain tour, too.

And I wouldn't classify the band as "naysayers", so I think there's more than one topic being discussed at the same time here.

Fans don't tend to criticize the Parade tour.

Wendy made an off-hand remark about the crowded nature of the stage and about Susannah's increasing involvement in Prince's music.

Other than that, the Parade tour has largely been lauded on the org and elsewhere.
