Keith Richards on Prince

I don't think this has been posted already...at least I didn't see it, and I searched.

Anyway, Richards has a new memoir out, and he doesn't care for Prince much at all:

http://theweek.com/articl...evelations

The legendary guitarist doesn't hold back, especially when it comes to his fellow musicians. Prince? "An overrated midget." Elton John is "an old bitch," John Lennon a "silly sod," and of Bruce Springsteen he writes, "if there was anything better around, he'd still be working the bars of New Jersey."

It surprises me that Keith Richards can remember his own name far less criticize others.

Keith Richards shoud just be grateful he's got away with his mediocrity and bullshit instead of bitchin about Prince-and I'm surprised he said that about Bruce. KR isn't worthy of being in the same room as those two let alone comment

Meh, so what. Keith Richards is one of the best guitarists of all time. But I'll leave it at that.

This is why we might not want to know so much about what our favorite artists think.

Hang on, didn't he ask Prince to open for the rolling stones or was that another member? Sounds to me like he's just jealous of everyone he mentioned for being more sucessful/skillfull than he is, if the only thing he can think of to call john lennon is a silly sod then he needs to grow up!

Talk about overrated. Richards has made a career out of ripping off black blues and rock guitarists like Chuck Berry and Buddy Guy. He couldn't hold Robert Johnson's guitar pick or Prince's musicianship book.

He had lots of bad stuff to say back in the 80's about Prince too.But know one really cared back then.Lets not forget he is a DRUG USER---He does not even no where he is have half the time.If it was not 4 Mick he would be dead or working 4 the man the past 60 years.

I wasn't really bothered by Keith Richard's criticism (disrespect) of Prince because as great as Keith Richard's was as a member of The Rolling Stone's, you can't take him seriously. At the 2004 Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame he was kissing Prince's ass, praising him and saying great things about him, while Prince was at the ceremony, then years later, you call him an "overated midget". At least when Miles Davis wrote his autobiography if he expressed dislike for your music, he didn't waver, and same as Rick James.

While on Keith Richard's he is the perfect example of how so much ass kissing from the rock press can blow your head up to the point, you think you are God's gift to Rock N Roll. Let's remember in the Chuck Berry film "Long Live The King of Rock N Roll", Chuck Berry chastised him plenty during rehearsals for the gig for not keeping up with tempos, and lagging behind him.

Re: his take on Prince, why are so many performers so nasty to each other? What is that about? I mean, why wouldnt they just be cool w/ each other? Re: his band, white privlege made them rich beyond their wildest dreams and the disparity is absolutely criminal.

are you people really that stupid? its fine if you dont like the stones, but they are one of the most successful groups EVER. no argument, no discussion, they are hugely successful.

some could say the same thing about prince and his music from the 80's

i think its really a dumb thing to get all worked up over. i dont think you can take things kieth richards says too seriously. its just the way he is. get over it. i doubt prince is going to cry over it, why should you.

I wouldn't put british working class war baby rock stars in the "thieving category". 70's era rock stars are notoriously catty. 1970's Pete Townshend has some of the best cringe worthy qoutes.

"Overrated" ??? whofarted

Most folks I know are like "Who cares? Been there, done that." yawn regarding Prince so... IMHO I think Prince was always underrated in the shadows of Micheal Jackson and Madonna. Prince never recieved the accolaids anywhere near the Rolling Stones or MJ or Bruce.

Hell.... I always loved Aerosmith wayyy better anyways.

An oldie but a goodie

http://findarticles.com/p...n35792543/

ELTON JOHN has launched an astonishing attack on Keith Richards after the Rolling Stones star allegedly ridiculed him for his songwriting tribute Princess Diana.

Richards is said to have described Elton's talent as being confined to 'writing songs for dead blondes'. The 53-year-old guitarist made the remark - a reference to the massive-selling single Candle in the Wind - a fortnight ago on the eve of the group's current tour of the U.S, reports the Atlanta Journal. Elton delivered his stinging response, in which he called Richards 'a monkey with arthritis'.

at a press conference in Atlanta to launch a series of live dates he is playing.

The 50-year-old singer said: 'I have great respect for Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts and the Rolling Stones as a group. I just think if they'd thrown Keith Richards out of the band 10 or 15 years ago they would have made better records, because he's held them back.

'It's like a monkey with arthritis trying to go on stage and look young.'

John added that he was glad he had given up drugs and alcohol, 'because it would be awful to be someone like Keith Richards, God forbid he's so pathetic, poor thing.' Richards, who became a grandfather last year, has never been far from controversy. A big drinker he has also confessed to taking heroin, opium and LSD.

When I hear pop stars whinging it just makes me think what temperamental nightmares they must be in their everyday lives. Just stfu and play your piano/guitar/tuba/whateva.

Elton was prob. not in the mood - the song was rewritten for Princess Di who was a good friend of his. Elton's pretty tempermental and catty... and a friend of Prince's (although 'friend' in that case might mean mutual respect for each other).

Tom Waits contributed to Keith's book, and he's a Prince fan. It would be very very cool if Prince ever covered "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis".There's also a song called "9th and Hennepin".

Tom would be a great add to "Welcome 2 America".
