Rebecca De Mornay "Little red corvette" (1985)

I really like the thick synthy production on this. At least the production touches don't try and emulate Prince's version. Also her voice is quite sexy on this.

What do you think?

eek oh Rebecca. Why?!? Nice trry but i woulda kept that one to myself.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

That's what it would have sounded like if Prince had given LRC to one of his many 'talented proteges'.

Just gonna point out again that this was for a movie.

In 1985.

It's not like she went out and recorded this on her own. She was an actress hired to perform a role, which included this song.

She didn't ever try to claim this as her own.

Yes sorry I should of said it was released in 1985, hence the (decent) production (now it would be all autotuned and mixed badly). Is it as good as the orginal? Of course not, but hearing it from a female perspective is kinda cool.

It wasn't bad as I thought it would be. Remember Sandra Bernhard's version?

She does a long intro first:

I actually kinda liked that version. She took it somewhere else, which is the classy thing to do.

When I first saw The Sluggers Wife, and saw her performing it onstage, I was surprised. She coverered a few other classics in that movie.

I'm sorry, but it sounds really bad...she takes all the drive out of it.

And she sings this to a woman or? As i don't think you're complimenting a guy by saying he's a little red corvette....

It's like TLC's cover of IIWYG, you can't sing that song as a woman.

She does say "you're the kinda guy..." at the beginning. Guys can have "little red corvettes" too. Think about it...

What is the Sluggers Wife movie about? I've never heard of it. Was it made for TV, who else was in it, is it on DVD? Rebecca has always seemed like a bit of an ice maiden.

It stars Michael O'Keefe (former husband to Bonnie Raitt) as a baseball player whol falls for Rebecca, who is a singer in a nightclub. It is an actual film, not a TV movie, and I know it's on VHS, but not sure about DVD. Neil Simon wrote it, and it was a dud at the box office.
