Pink Cashmere has it all!

I go on record as saying that Adore is my favorite song in the history of music... however...

Pink Cashmere is just a special piece of artistry.

You have to understand... in this song, it's like Prince is conjuring up all that he can imagine as what's beautiful and equisite.

The most precious color.

The most precious material.

And he wants to wrap his loved one all up in it.

And to start the song, he expresses himself in a way in which we're all familiar with.

Ooh, here I go again fallin' in love all over
Ooh, the cycle never ends, U just pray U don't get burned
Ooh, this fire inside of me, don't nobody realize
(Ooh) Ow, what U are 2 me, but baby U got 2 learn

And then here he comes with the essence of "pink cashmere", and securing his loved one in a coat made from it, and how he just can't wait to be with her again.

I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere
U got 2 know how I feel about ya, how I always want U near
I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere
I'm countin' every minute of every hour til U are here

And then he expresses himself again with thoughts of missing her, and thanks God that he has someone special.

Girl, can U understand I never used 2 go dancin'?
I.. I was the kind of man who'd rather stay at home
Now when I think about how.. how much I miss U
I wanna jump 4 joy and thank Him I'm not alone (I am not alone)

AMAZING... AMAZING SONG!!!

Ooh, I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere
U got 2 know how I feel about U baby, how I always want U near
I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere (Pink cashmere)
I'm gonna count every minute of every hour until U are here
(Till U are here)

Here I go again fallin' in love all over
Oh, the cycle never ends (Cycle never endin')
U pray U don't get burned

(I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere)
I'm makin' U a coat.. cashmere, baby, cashmere
(U got 2 know how I feel about ya, how I always want U near)
U got 2 know, yeah baby, baby, baby, baby
(I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere)
How I feel about U, how I feel about U, oh
(I'm countin' every minute of every hour til U are here)

When I get my arms around U baby (Yeah) (CHORUS)
There's so many things I'm gonna do
I'm gonna hug U, I'm gonna kiss U
Like your, like your own guru
I'm gonna tell U a bedtime story baby
One U never heard before (Every minute, every hour)
I said one U never heard before (How I feel about U)
About a girl, about a boy (I'm makin' U a coat of pink cashmere)
And all their joy (Another AMAZING verse, and point of expression)

All the things they show each other (Coat of pink cashmere {x3})
How 2 stay in love, how 2 stay so happy
Baby girl, so many things, so many things I'm gonna do
Can U come 2 that, can U get 2 that?
I'm gonna make... gonna... I'm gonna, gonna, gonna...
Gonna make a little pretty pink coat of cashmere

Cuz U got 2 know how I feel about U baby
How I feel about U baby
I'm gonna make a little pretty coat
I'm gonna count every second, every minute
Each and every hour of every day til U come on back
Come on back 2 your little man (LOVE that line!)

... all I can say is... Wow.

Thank you Prince for this timeless treasure of a song! smile

The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Great song. Lyrics, vocals, production...everything just spot on. That little string flourish after he delivers the line "Til you come on back to your l'il man" gets me every time.

I love this song.Should've been a bigger hit. At a friend's wedding, I asked the DJ to play it during the couple's dance, but he said he need to check it for explicit lyrics, WTF! Of course, he went on to play a whole bunch of raunchy rap & pop songs. Hours later, he finally played Pink Cashmere when the wedding party started to thin out. What an idiot...

This is a song I completely overlooked when The Hits came out. To the point that when I heard it 3 years later watching Girl 6 my immediate thought was "what is that amazing song and how do I get it?", only to discover I already had it. Now it's one of my all time favorites.

This song is so gorgeous. I remember putting it as Track 1 on a mix tape for a little honey I was dating back in college. cloud9

There's one lyric that I always mishear, though, and it kinda makes me giggle (at 2:54):

"When I get my arms around you baby

so many things I'm gonna do

I'm gonna hug ya

I'm gonna kiss ya

like you're a

like you're a guru..." lol

(addendum: The Love Guru was, bar-none, the worst movie I have ever seen in my life.)

And doesn't it make it even more amazing when you realize the guitarist and the string arranger never even met? That one recorded their part around a recording of the other's? I'd give anything to hear the master tapes and be able to isolate each part.

Really, and that's the part of the song that I really loved...it's build-up and conclusion. And they never met.

I was JUST wondering about this song. I noticed (and have listened to) the two B-Side versions that were released with the single, Pink Cashmere vocal version, and guitar version. Both are ALMOST as long as the original version, and honestly, I can't tell a single difference between all three? What am I missing? Are they different?

the 2 single edits are about 4 minutes each, over 2 minutes less than the original.

although I can't tell you the difference. I never used the "vocal" version on anything, since the "guitar" version contains more of what I love most about the song. I do remember having a really hard time (about 5 years ago) distinguising any of them. they are flawlessly edited so that you don't really miss anything.

I don't know... the Prince marketing machine seriously gets a D- for so many reasons.

I mean seriously... how many songs of his get ZERO recognition.

Too many songs to mention.

Not sure whom to blame, but I'm sure Prince is partly responsible.

This song could have been HUGE!!!!

The "Pink" in the song conjures up a vision of a woman's V****A. I think that is what Prince was speaking of in this song.
